William “Bill” Michael Zone, 82, of Hobart, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Franciscan Health Crown Point. He was born on April 12, 1944, in Gary, to the late Frank Joseph Sr. and Clara (Bucezk) Zone. 

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Karen Marie (Rossa) Zone; daughter, Christine (Richard Nester) Froglia; grandsons, David William Froglia, and Joseph Michael Froglia; great-grandson, Oliver James Froglia; sister, Dorothy Zone; and a loving host of extended family and friends. 

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Joseph Zone Jr. 

Bill served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. He also proudly worked for U.S. Steel for 30 years, honorably retiring in 1999. Bill was also a union member for the United Steel Workers of America. 

Bill was able to spend a wonderful 27 years as a retired man who possessed a love for all sports, sports card collecting, and old science-fiction and horror movies. He also loved to keep up on his 35-year-old Buick Riviera, treating his car as a very prized possession he could pass down to his family. Bill also held a special place in his heart for animals, loving many furry friends throughout his lifetime. 

Most importantly, family was everything to Bill. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughter, and grandchildren, creating many special memories that will last forever. 

Bill will best be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

In accordance with the family’s wishes, a private burial will take place at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville.
