Vernon “Lee” Evans, 72, of Lake Station, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at his daughter’s home surrounded by loving family. He was born on May 15, 1954, in Chenoa, KY, to the late William James Sr. and Hassie Kathern (Webb) Evans. 

Lee is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Carol Lucille (Bergman) Evans; children, Angela Evans, Amy Kinman, Crystal (Kevin) Fuller, Leroy (Jennifer) Evans, Elvis Pressley, John Pressley, and Sharon Pressley; grandchildren, Tyler (Cathy) Evans, Alexis Ortiz, Josephine Hillman, April Kinman, Morgan Fuller, Anthony Hillman, Christopher R. Kinman, Abigail Fuller, Zachary Evans, Jordan Bell, Emonie Bell, Mason Kinman, and Carolyn Evans; great-grandchildren, Lainey Meschede, Evelyn Evans, and James Evans; sister, Joyce (Mark) Westenberg; brother, William Evans Jr.; and many nieces and nephews. 

In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by his grandchildren, Amber Fuller, Adalyne Kinman, and Sha’Terry Bell; son-in-law, Christopher P. Kinman; and sister, Dorcas Evans. 

Lee began his working life as a welder at the age of 19. He worked for over 40 years as a welder for Chicago Metal and was also a member of the welder’s union. After his time at Chicago Metal, Lee went on to work as an over-the-road truck driver for Werner Enterprises for over 10 years until his retirement. 

In Lee’s spare time, music was his greatest passion, especially when it came to bluegrass and rock music. He learned how to play various instruments over the years, but his favorites were the banjo and his beloved red Gibson guitar. Lee was also a member in a band, an accomplishment he was very proud of. 

Lee was also notably a proud karate member, working his way up as close as he could to get a black belt. His children fondly remember his karate days and will always keep those memories close to their hearts. 

Most importantly, family and friends were everything to Lee and he loved his big, beautiful, blended family with every fiber of his being. Lee will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. 

Services for Lee will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel of Hobart & Portage, 370 N. County Line Rd., Hobart, IN 46342, with visitation from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and a funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow services at Calvary Cemetery in Portage, IN.
