Thomas Edward Spencer Jr. (affectionately known as “Butch”) was born on June 9, 1950, in Gary, Indiana, He was called home on June 8, 2025.

Thomas was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa, his father, Thomas Spencer Sr., and his beloved granddaughter, Diamond Marie Manning.

He is survived by his sister, Terry Spencer, and his brother, Tim Spencer, both of Florida; his son, Mark Spencer, and his daughter, Tina Spencer of Indianapolis. He leaves behind his grandchildren: Victor Roman, Marquise Manning, Destiny Manning, Justine Spencer, and Trent Spencer; as well as his great-grandchildren, Manoa and Hosea Roman.

Thomas was a proud retiree of U.S. Steel Gary Works, where he dedicated over 30 years of hard work and loyalty. Outside of work, he had a deep love for music and a passion for riding his Harley. He was a devoted father and grandfather, always putting family first and offering his love freely. Known for his generous spirit, Thomas had a heart for giving — whether it was a thoughtful gift, a kind gesture, or simply his time and attention. He loved to shop, not for himself, but for the joy of surprising others with something special.

Thomas will be remembered for his big heart, his tough yet unconditional love, and the way he never stopped thinking of others. His legacy of love, generosity, and strong family values will live on in all who knew and loved him.

Thomas passed away peacefully in his sleep after a long and courageous battle with chronic kidney failure. Though dialysis became a regular part of his life, he faced each day with quiet strength and resilience. His passing was gentle, surrounded by love and the comfort of rest.

His funeral will be held on Monday, June 23rd, 2025, from 10am to 12pm at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN 46410. The service will start at 12 noon.
