Thomas Biancardi 1952-2025
Thomas Andrew Biancardi of Hammond, IN, was born June 20th, 1952, at St. Anne’s Hospital, Chicago, IL. He passed away January 21st, 2025, in Munster, IN. Tom was the third child of Catherine and Andrew Biancardi, Sr. His sister, Louise, and brother, Andrew Jr., preceded him in birth. In 1964, Tom was no longer the “baby” of the family with the addition of our sister, Loraine.
In 1956, the family moved from Chicago and settled in the growing Brunswick area of Gary, IN, where everyone was friendly and helpful to each other. There were plenty of kids to play with; some worshipped and attended our church’s school, Holy Rosary.
Tom loved baseball. He joined the Little League at our brand new Brunswick baseball field. On many days you would find Tom playing, Dad behind the plate, and brother, Andy, doing play-by- play in the press box.
Our Assistant Priest Fr. McGinnity urged the community to start a Boy Scout Troop, so Troop 34 was created. Andrew Sr. was Scout Leader with the help of Al Corona, a firefighter and good family man who brought his sons. That added to the cast of rambunctious young men, some to die in Vietnam.
After graduating from Bishop Noll High School in 1970, Tom secured a job at Inland Steel. Tom was appreciated with promotions and raises. His hard work paid off by allowing him to travel extensively through Europe three times. He traveled across the US, including visiting as many different baseball stadiums as he could and had many stories to tell. Tom enjoyed all sorts of music and playing his guitar in the classic Andre Segovia European tradition.
During the 1970’s, the baseball diamond once again called, and Tom began coaching girls’ softball with winning teams. Among the players was his sister, Loraine.
After ten years, Tom decided to leave Inland to start a business fixing and refinishing furniture, always doing excellent work. Ever the adventurer, Tom pursued his interest in local hauntings and worked with area independent filmmakers. Familiar with these sites, he conducted ghost tours and lectures, becoming renowned throughout the region.
Generous in so many different ways, his good friends, old and new, and his family could count on him whenever needed. Above all he treasured time with his son, Joshua, who he loved and enjoyed on their many excursions, and as an immense source of pride.
We will miss you, Tom!
