Terrence “Scooter” Martinez, of Lake Station, IN, passed away on September 6, 2023, at the age of 78. He was a lifelong resident of the region. He graduated from Tolleston H.S. in 1965 and spent many years working as an immigration counselor at the International Institute. He was an avid reader, reading just about anything that came his way.
Scooter is survived by his brother, Ronald “Pudgie” Martinez; nieces and nephews: Brian Martinez, Martin (Tracy) Martinez, Raquel (Jose) Casillas, Maria (Alfred) Quiroga, Andrea (Christopher) Nygaard, and Regina Springstead; and a host of extended family and friends.
He is welcomed into eternity by his parents, Julio and Daisy Martinez; sisters, Margo Ligons and Constance Martinez; and nephews, Jaime Martinez and Jason Ligons.
Scooter was loved by many and will be dearly missed by those who were blessed to have known him.
Friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, September 12 from 3 – 8 PM at Rendina Funeral Home (5100 Cleveland Street, Gary, Indiana), with a prayer service and rosary offered at 7. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 13, DIRECTLY at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (3530 Illinois Street, New Chicago, Indiana). Burial to follow at Mt. Mercy Cemetery.
