REMEMBERING

Rodrigo "Rico" Montes

2008

-

2026

Rodrigo Montes, also lovingly known as “Rico”, 18, of Lake Station, went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, March 26, 2026. He was born on February 12, 2008, in Munster, to Dolores and Maria Guadalupe (Zepeda) Montes.

Rico is survived his loving parents, Dolores and Maria Guadalupe Montes; brothers, Moises (Alyssa Yanez) Montes, Saul Montes, and Adolfo Montes; niece, Camila Montes; grandmother, Maria Virginia Sanchez; girlfriend, Mila Soto; and a loving host of extended family and friends.

Rico was enrolled as a Senior at River Forest High School where he was the Team Captain for Wrestling, most recently winning the 2026 Sectional Championship Tournament. He was also enrolled to begin his college career at Purdue University Northwest Campus after his high school graduation, where he planned to study construction management.

Rico was employed at S&S Tires, Blue Beacon Truck Wash, and owner of GR Detailing over the last two years. He was also a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Lake Station.

In his spare time, Rico could be found riding around on his dirt bike, out fishing, working out at home or the gym, and enjoying traditional Mexican music. Most importantly, he adored spending time with his family and friends, especially when it came to playing with his niece, Camila, who brought so much joy into his life.

Rico will best be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, grandson, and friend who held a good-spirited, spontaneous, charming, and funny personality. He was truly a hardworking young man who always had hope in his heart for his future. Rico, along with all the love and joy he shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts he touched throughout his life.

Services for Rico will begin on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel of Hobart/Portage, 370 North County Line Road, Hobart, IN 46342, with visitation from 4 PM to 9 PM. A rosary service will be held at 6 PM, as well. Services will continue on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, with a short visitation at the funeral home from 10 AM to 11 AM. Mass will be held at 12 PM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 2447 Putnam Street, Lake Station, IN 46405. Fr. Jaime Perea will officiate. Burial will follow Mass at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart.

I met you when you were just a little boy. Your mom would bring you to school for parent-teacher conferences, and you always stood out—full of life, with the sweetest smile. I remember hugging you and feeling like you held such a special place in my heart.
I will always remember you that way—the sweet little boy running through the hallways at Evans School. That memory will stay with me forever.
Love,
Mrs Cruz
