Richard Ronald Carlson, age 79, passed away peacefully on March 8th, 2023. He Was born in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the US Army, was a member of the American Legion post 406 of Wheatfield, Indiana and retired from Commonwealth Edison. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Katherine Carlson; two brothers and two sisters; and his son, Phil Carlson. He is survived by his loving wife Juanita Carlson; sister; Sherley Hardwig; daughter, Susan (Carlson) Smith (son-in-law, Mark Smith); Granddaughters, Melanie Lopez and Megan Smith, one great-granddaughter Melina Smith; also numerous nieces and nephews. Richard gained the nicknamed “Dino” for his love of music, Dean Martin, James Dean and the Platters were just a few of his favorites. He spent his final days enjoying the soundtrack of his lifetime. Surrounded by family in love, remembering all of his many travels. He loved everything chocolate, milk and cookies for breakfast, history of baseball (go White Sox!) and playing card games with his family.

Please join us in honoring Richards life for visitation on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft St, Merrillville, IN 46410 from 10am – 1pm. Intermittent and military honors will be held following visitation at Calumet Park Cemetery.
