Marianthi (Mary) Sarikos
Mary Sarikos (nee Kartsomanis) of Crown Point, Ind., passed away on December 20, 2023. She was born in Tihio, Kastoria, Greece where she grew up with her childhood sweetheart and love of her life. They were married in 1953, and then moved Hamilton, Ontario, Canada before moving to Gary, Ind. She was a lifelong devoted member of Ss. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, and loved going to her Philoptochos meetings and baking with the friends she made there.
Mary was always smiling with a kind word for everyone she met. She was “yiayia” to so many, always had a place in her heart and home, and treated everyone as family.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Thomas Sarikos; her parents, Anastasios and Sofia Kartsomanis; in-laws, Kosmas and Anastasia Saricos; brother, Vasili Kartsomanis; niece, Sophie Tarpos; brother-in-law, Panayioti Saricos; sister-in-law, Eleni Karas; and son-in-law, John Rodriguez.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Rodriguez; sons, Nick (Kathy) Sarikos and George Sarikos; granddaughter, Kristen (Dylan) Sampson; great-grandchildren, Ilana and Isaac Sampson; sisters, Ourania (Kyriakos) Tarpos and Marika (Panayioti) Kozinas; sisters-in-law, Milka Saricos and Kathy Kartsomanis; and brother-in-law, Petros Karas, as well as many nieces, nephews, koumbari and godchildren she loved so very much.
Friends may visit with the family from on Wednesday, Dec. 27 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel at 7535 W. Taft St., Merrillville, Ind., with a 5:00 p.m. Trisagion prayer. Funeral services will be on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 10:00 a.m. directly at Ss. Constantine & Helen Cathedral, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville, Ind., with Fr. Theodore Poteres and Fr. Dimitri Burikos officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Ind.

She will be missed by everyone that knew her….. my sister Marcella will be glad to welcome her in Heaven and they can share their stories from the Anderson Company where they worked…. Sorry for your loss Jeanne, Nick and George. I will never forget our visits from Canada to Indiana to visit Theia and Theo. Theia always treated us like her own children. Rest in peace.
