REMEMBERING

Marie L Viramontes

1936

-

2023

Marie L Viramontes, 87, of Valparaiso, entered into heaven on December 22, 2023. She was born on June 23, 1936 in Gary, IN. She was born to Jesus and Catalina Lopez. She graduated from Edison High School and went on to graduate from Purdue University Calumet with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked as an LPN at St. Mary’s Medical Center for over 35 years.

Marie enjoyed watching her Chicago Cubs on television. She loved her annual Las Vegas trips with her sisters as well as going to the local casino with her daughter. Marie always had the best of luck at the casinos.

Marie had a love for shopping for things she did not really need. She was a devoted grandmother and was excited to meet her great grandson Braxton in March. She never missed a grandchild’s sporting event or performances. Her children and her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. The past 43 years of her life was spent with her best friend, her husband Manual laughing, shopping and vacationing together. Marie’s children’s referred to them as the recycled teenagers.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents: Jesus and Catalina Lopez, son: Kevin Michael Valencia, brothers: Richard and Johnny, and sisters, Catherine and Trina.

Marie is survived by her husband: Manuel Viramontes;  her children: Jerry (Diana) Valencia of Williamson, GA, Yolanda Brannagan (Thomas) of Westville, IN, Kathy Chamlee (the late Todd), Zebulon, GA, Karen Alexander (Dennis), Westville, IN, Adrienne Viramontes of Kenosha, WI, grandchildren: Amy, Kevin, Jessica (Quinn), Jimmy (Katie), Michael, McKensey, James (Maddie and soon to be great grandson Braxton), and Daniel; sisters: Jessie, Maggie, and Henrietta, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie will have a visitation on Thursday December 28, 2023 from 3pm-6pm.  The Nurses Honorguard will be rendering honors at 5:45pm.  Visitation and services will be held at Rendina Funeral Home, 5100 Cleveland St, Gary, IN 46408.

Sorry to hear of Marie’s passing. I am just hearing about our neighbor of nearly 30 years. I will miss them driving by and her smile and waving hand. My condolences to the family.

Manuel and family, we are so sorry to hear of Marie’s passing and just found out today. We have had the honor of living next door to you and Marie since 2001 and we could not ask for better neighbors! Marie was the first one over to help our son William when he was injured really bad and we are so thankful to have had her nursing experience to help us first hand! Marie will be greatly missed! Jim always enjoyed sharing his garden tomatoes and homemade salsa with you both.
