Our dear mother Maria Luisa Rivera, 93, sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer on September 25, 2022, in Hobart, Indiana with her loving family by her side. Maria who was born in Puerto Rico on September 2, 1929 was a loving wife, mother (8), grandmother (21), great grandmother (29) and great-great grandmother (2).
Maria is survived by her loving family, daughters Elsa (Carmelo) Melendez, Luz (John) Robatto, Maria (Eric) Downing, Milagros Rivera, and her sons, Anibal Rivera, Jaime (Dawn) Rivera, Jose (Kim) Rivera and her daughter-in-law Carmen Rivera. She is also survived by her sisters in Puerto Rico and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Maria loved her Puerto Rican heritage which was shared with our family. She also enjoyed cooking (Puerto Rican food) and spending time with her family.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Amalia and Pedro Roman, her husband Esperanza Rivera, her son Rafael Rivera, and her grandson Matthew Rivera.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the entire Hospice staff for their services and special care they provided our mom. The family would also like to ask that instead of sending flowers, please make a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society.
A visitation will be held at Calumet Park Funeral Home on Friday, September 30, 2022 from 3:00 PM -8:00 PM. The service will also be at the Calumet Park Funeral Chapel on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at 10:00 AM.
Jaime and Family, we were so sorry to hear the news of your Beloved, beautiful Mother. She raised a wonderful family and know she will be looking down from Heaven, watching over each of you. Beautiful picture of her! May she rest in peace
