2022

” He retired in 1992 and then spent his time gardening, woodworking, volunteering with Annette and telling tales to his grandchildren.”

Marcello was born on December 6, 1929 and entered into eternal rest on March 13, 2022. He was born in Ferentino, Italy to Sam and Natalina Borgetti. When he was 7 years old, he moved with his mother and 2 brothers, Ambrose and Americo (Bill) to Whiting, IN. The Borgettis were the only Italian family in town for many years. At the age of 14, Marcello began selling newspapers to help his family. His paper stand was at the corner of New York Avenue and 119th Street. His charming personality, warm smile and wit made him an unforgettable paperboy.

Marcello attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Whiting High School.

On May 5, 1962, Marcello married Annette Justak. They were married for 55 years before she passed away on December 12, 2017.

Marcello is survived by his son Mark (Caryn), daughter Kara (fiancé Kent Fisher), and six grandchildren, Alyssa Borgetti, Cayla Gibson (Nick), and Adam Borgetti,  Zack, Callan (fiancé Derek Doncyson) and Garrett Molle, his brother Bill Borgetti, sister Jean (John) Thibault, sister-in-law Delores Borgetti, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Sam and Natalina, brother Ambrose, and sister-in law Lucille Borgetti.

Marcello worked for Standard Oil, Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Purex and the City of Whiting before beginning a lengthy insurance career with Western-Southern Life. He retired in 1992 and then spent his time gardening, woodworking, volunteering with Annette and telling tales to his grandchildren.

Marcello was active in many organizations. He was a member of the Cesare Battisti Lodge since 1943 and served as Vice President, Treasurer, Chaplain, and Flag Bearer as well as serving on numerous committees. He was chosen Member of the Year in 1987, a true honor for him. He was also a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. While he and Annette resided in Schererville, he volunteered much of his time at the Southlake YMCA in Crown Point.

A celebration of life will be held at the Cesare Battisti Lodge, 900 Eagle Ridge Drive, Schererville, IN on Saturday, April 23rd. Visitation for family and friends from 10:00-11:00 CST followed by a memorial service and luncheon.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Southlake YMCA, 100 W. Burrell Dr, Crown Point, IN 46307 can be made in his name.
