Linda Susan (VanLul) Trivette, age 75, of Cedar Lake, passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at Franciscan Health Crown Point.
Linda was the kind of person whose kindness spoke softly but deeply. She was fiercely loyal, endlessly caring, and never had a mean word to say about anyone. If someone was in need, she would give them her last dollar without hesitation. Helping others came naturally to her, and she did so with grace and without expectation.
She had a wonderful, gentle sense of humor, often paired with a playful smirk that appeared whenever she insisted she felt “just fine,” even when she clearly didn’t. That quiet strength and lightheartedness defined her in many ways.
Nothing meant more to Linda than her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she loved beyond measure. She cherished the simple comforts of home and found joy in everyday moments: working on puzzles, watching MASH, and game shows, sitting outside on a nice day, and watching birds gather at the feeder. She never missed watching a Cubs game, had a fondness for sweets, and believed there was nothing quite like a good McDonald’s hamburger. She rarely wore shoes, claiming they made her walk funny and preferred being exactly where she felt most at peace: at home, surrounded by the people she loved.
Linda was born on July 20, 1950, to the late Albert and Dorothy (Pievac) VanLul. She graduated from Morton High School in Hammond in 1968. Over the years, she worked bingo at several locations, including the Hobart Elks Lodge, and spent 15 years at Jewel Osco as a cashier in the cosmetics, pharmacy, and photography departments.
She is survived by her sons, Keith (Kelly) and Jeff (Hannah) Trivette; her beloved grandchildren, Jared, Morgan, Emma, Madison, Brandon, and Reagan; sisters-in-law, Nancy and Kathy VanLul, and Jesse Lee Lambert; brothers-in-law, Ferrell Trivette, William Trivette, Dennis (Sharon) Trivette, and Owen Barger; special nephew, Tyler VanLul; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard B. Trivette; brothers, Ken and David VanLul; brothers-in-law, Horton (Sharon) Trivette, Bob (Pearl) Trivette, and Reed Trivette; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Greenwell, Eula Belle Barger, Sue Trivette, and Marilyn Trivette; and parents-in-law, Arlie Ray and Daisy Maxine Trivette.
Above all else, family was everything to Linda. The love she shared, the comfort she provided, and the quiet joy she brought into the lives of those around her will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
In accordance with the family’s wishes, a private burial and graveside service will be held at Calumet Park Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Bernard. Calumet Park Funeral Chapel of Merrillville has been entrusted with arrangements.

You were my little Sis., and I loved you from the moment I met you. I will always cherish our long talks. My heart is sad at your passing, but know you are at peace with Bernie and your family. Rest in Peace Linda Sue. Go stand high on that mountain honey. You were loved by your family.
I didn’t know Linda personally, but I know she was loved. I heard many cherished stories from her family. I saw her at Lauren’s wedding shower, and at Tyler and Lauren’s wedding. She looked beautiful at both events.
My heartfelt condolences to all her family.
