REMEMBERING

Lina Evans

1931

-

2022

Lina Evans, 91, of Roseville, California, passed away December 23, 2022. She was born Nellie Avakian in Urmia, Iran in 1931, the youngest of six children to an Assyrian mother and Armenian father. She was called Lina, because her father could not pronounce Nellie. At 20, she married Samuel Eyvazzadeh, and they moved into central Tehran and had four children. In 1965, the family moved to the United States, fulfilling their dreams of living in a country where Christians are treated fairly. In the US, Samuel was encouraged to change his last name to “Evans” to avoid discrimination in the union.
Lina took a job at US Steel to help support the family. She worked full time, minded four children (whom she and Samuel sent to college), took care of the household, sewed, knitted, pickled, cooked, gardened, and volunteered at the church. She led with absolute faith in God, love, and generosity. All her children, in-laws, and grandchildren have been eternally blessed by her.
She is survived by her dear sister Susan; her four loving children: Romel Evans, Carmen Evans, Ed (Sandy) Evans, and Germain (Gerald) Hauprich; 6 cherished grandchildren: Adrienne Cathy, Erica Helzer, Steven Hauprich, Christian Hauprich, Ilyssa Evans, Rachel Hauprich; and her 8 treasured great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel Evans; her precious granddaughter: Chrystal Hauprich; her parents; and four of her siblings.

Please meet at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville) at 10:00 AM for the procession to Calumet Park Cemetery for graveside services. Burial will be held 10:30 AM, on Friday, June 23 at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville IN.

I share the pain of loss of my dear aunt Nellie Evans with all her surviving family, foremost my cousins Romel, Carmen, Edwin and Germain. It is however unbearable to accept the truth she is gone from our world but her spirit will stay in our hearts till our last day on this earth and the unknown that follows. We measure life by passage of time and this worth our while a short glimpse of a noble soul, more courageous than all I find in my life, I miss you my dear with all my heart. Rest in peace.
