Larry Lamar Young, a beloved member of the Fishers, Indiana community, peacefully passed away on February 9, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on November 9, 1944, in East Chicago, Indiana, to the late William Young, Sr. and Flora Hood. Larry’s parents instilled in him a strong work ethic and a passion for education, which he carried throughout his life.

Larry pursued his education with determination and achieved great success. In 1962, he graduated from East Chicago Washington High School, where he received the prestigious Mr. Football Award. Continuing his academic journey, Larry obtained a bachelor’s degree from Kentucky State University in 1968. He continued to enhance his knowledge and skills, earning a Master’s Degree from Indiana Northwest University. Larry’s thirst for knowledge led him to Purdue University, where he pursued a Ph.D., a testament to his dedication to lifelong learning.

Larry made a lasting impact in various areas of his professional life. He began his career as a Physical Education Teacher and Assistant Wrestling Coach at Westside High School. His natural leadership ability and commitment to education propelled his career forward, ultimately leading him to serve as Assistant Principal at Decatur High School and North Central High School. Later, he became a successful owner and operator of a McDonald’s franchise in Columbia, South Carolina before retiring.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Larry cherished his family and enjoyed creating beautiful memories with his loved ones. He shared a deep bond with his wife, Maxine Young, as they lovingly stood by each other’s side through thick and thin. Larry and Maxine found joy in watching tennis and football together, and their shared love for sports created a strong and lasting connection. Larry was a loving father to his children, Kevin Terrell, Ingrid Young-Crayton (De’Shon), Larry Young, Jr, D’Artagnan, and Gioia Partee. His love and guidance will forever be treasured by his seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Great Aunt Arlee Willingham.

Described as a compassionate and humble individual, Larry’s warm smile brightened the lives of those around him. He had a joyful spirit and approached life with an unwavering positivity. Larry also had a passion for outdoor activities, including swimming, fishing, and golfing. These activities allowed him to appreciate the beauty of nature and find solace in its serenity.

As the news of Larry’s passing spreads, friends, family, and community members are gathering to celebrate his life and bid farewell to a remarkable man. The visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15, 2024, from 4-8 pm at Phillips Temple C.M.E Church 210 East 34th Street Indianapolis, IN 46208. The funeral services, honoring Larry’s life and legacy, will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Zion Missionary Baptist Church 3939 Drummond St, East Chicago, IN 46312. Family and friends, near and far, will come together to share stories, reminisce about cherished memories, and offer support to one another during this time of grief.

Larry Lamar Young will be deeply missed but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. The impact he made as a loving husband, devoted father, and accomplished professional will forever be remembered. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
