Kay S. Halaschak, 95, of Merrillville, passed away August 22, 2022. Kay was born in Gary on March 26, 1927. She was a member of SS Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral and belonged to Senior Citizens meeting and luncheon. Kay loved her Greek name Kiriakula Sophia Kay, going to Dunkin Donuts for coffee and to meet her friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father Lambros Hadjiandonakis changed to Anzanos mother Horepsima Hadjiandonakis married in 1921 in Kato Panagia Turkey, husband George (Whitey), son Larry Halaschak, and sister Dora Jones (Floyd), sister Angeline Merodias (William) of Tucson, AZ, brother Andy Anzanos of Tucson.
Survived by her daughter Marsha Griggs (Garry), grandchildren Ashliee (Reece) Freeman and Jacob Griggs of Hobart, greatgrandchild Brayden Picard-Freeman, sister-in-law Christine, and many nieces and nephews.
She worked as a payroll administrator at U.S. Steel for 14 years and Munster Steel Co. for 32 years. The nurses at Spring Mill said Kay was always a ray of sunshine and never complained.
Friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday, August 29, 2022, from 2:00 – 7:00 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft St, Merrillville, IN 46410. Private funeral will be scheduled at a later date.
