2024

Kathy Sue Gonzalez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 25, 1953, and lived a life filled with love, laughter, and enjoyment.

Kathy was preceded in death by her son, Tony Gonzalez, parents, Lecil Martin and Jewel Colbert and sister, Becky Martin.

Kathy is succeeded in life by her beloved husband of 50 years, Ricardo Gonzalez, sons Joe (Janelle) and Chris Gonzalez, Daughter-in-Law Valerie Gonzalez, Grandkids Claire (Ryan) Gott, Jose Gonzalez, Tyra (Luis) Guajardo, Julia Gonzalez, Luke Gonzalez, Jonas Gonzalez, Anthony Gonzalez, Lilliana Gonzalez and Desirae Gonzalez. Great grandchildren Malaya Guajardo and Macie Gott. Brothers Ronnie Martin and Butch (Renee) Martin and sister Theresa Martin and so many amazing nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Kathy was known for her kindness and gentle spirit. She touched the lives of all who knew her with her warm smile and caring nature. Her love for her family was evident in everything she did. She approached life with a sense of grace and humility that inspired those around her. She always had a smile on her face and opened her heart and home to anyone who needed it. She could strike up a conversation with a perfect stranger in the grocery store and have it sound like they had been friends for years. Her innate ability to brighten a room was unmatched. The friends she surrounded herself with throughout her lifetime also became family.

As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Kathy cherished spending time with her loved ones. She enjoyed simple pleasures like family gatherings, vacationing, decorating, rearranging the kitchen and cooking for those she held dear. Her love knew no bounds, and her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. She enjoyed getting together with her friends for golf, stitch club, or whatever was planned next. Her smile would light up a room!

Kathy will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace knowing that her legacy of love and kindness will endure for generations to come.

Friends may meet with her family on Wednesday, April 3rd from 9am-12pm at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville.  Celebration of Life Service will begin at 12pm with Paul Vogel II officiating.

No matter how she felt, Kathy’s smile lit up the office and put everyone in a good mood for the day. It is a gift to shine and make the world a better place even when you don’t feel 100%. The office will never be the same without such a special lady.

My deepest Sympathy to all the family.
I have known Kathy since I was 10 years old. She treated me like a little sister and continued to treat me as a sister through life. Always made me feel welcome in in her home. We shared many good times and laughs. I will miss her smiling face. I am blessed to have been a part of her life.
Love and prayers to you all.
