Kathleen E. (Hook) Van, 89, of Hobart, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at St. Mary Medical Center. She was born on June 23, 1935, in Gary, to the late John Hook and Margaret (Murray) Spychalski.

Kathleen is survived by her children, James, Robert, and Charlie (Darla) Somers, and Margaret (Sam) Press; grandchildren, Dawn, Steven, Chris, Ricky, Jennie, Matthew, Nicole, Jacob, Clifton, Donnie Allen, Shannon, C.J., and Becka; many great grandchildren; and a loving host of extended family, friends, and acquaintances.

In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband, George Van; sons, Michael, Donald, and Thomas Somers; grandson, Ronnie; and brother, Joe Hook.

Kathleen was steadfast in her Catholic faith, praying every night before bed and always loving her Lord and Savior.

In her spare time, Kathleen could be found reading, crocheting, or cooking a delicious meal. In more recent years, she would spend Friday nights with her family playing cards and enjoying a take-out fish dinner, memories her loved ones will hold near and dear.

Kathleen will best be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who was beloved by all. She, along with all the love and joy she shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts she touched throughout her life.

In accordance with Kathleen’s wishes, a private family viewing will be held and interment will take place at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville at a later date. Calumet Park Funeral Chapel of Merrillville has been entrusted with arrangements.
