Jose Isabel “Izzy” Gonzalez Jr. passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 10, 2026 at home in Hobart, Indiana at the age of 71.
Izzy is survived by 6 children, Lacey (Michael) Lowe of Lake Station, Jose I. Gonzalez III of Crown Point, Daniel C. (Airlyn) Gonzalez of Hobart, Jermany M. Gonzalez of Hobart, Ruben J. (Robyn) Gonzalez of Hebron, Hillary P. (Joseph) Sulls Jr. of Hammond; brother, Roberto Gonzalez of Knox; sister, Leticia (Cecilio) Russi Jr. of Gary; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other loving family members. He is preceded in death by wife, Mary Ann (nee Butler) Gonzalez; daughter, Candace Jo Gonzalez; mother, Guadalupe Gonzalez and father, Jose I. Gonzalez Sr.
Jose “Izzy” was born on August 12, 1954 in Gary, Indiana to Guadalupe and Jose Gonzalez Sr. He was a graduate of Bishop Noll. He married his love and highschool sweet heart Mary Ann Butler, on May 31, 1975. Jose “Izzy” was a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. He had proudly served as a Volunteer Fireman in the Lake Station Fire Department. Izzy also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, motorcycles, rebuilding and working on cars and motorcycles, going to flea markets, going out to eat, his dog’s, and simple talks with loved ones.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, August 22, 4 PM at the Hobart Aerie 2498 Fraternal Order of Eagles, 20 W 37th Ave. Hobart, IN 46342. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jose I, “Izzy” Gonzalez Jr’s life. Cremation entrusted to Redina Funeral Home.
