John D. Pavlakovic, 90, of Hobart and Portage, Indiana, passed away February 26, 2024. John was a lifelong resident of the region and a proud Hobart Brickie through and through. He was an Army veteran who went on to serve as an Indiana State police officer from 1962 to 1985, and after retirement from the force worked for the Internal Revenue Department for the state of Indiana from 1985 to 2002.

When John wasn’t serving his community, he could be found out in the community attending his beloved Brickie football games, telling stories and assigning nicknames, and maintaining and caring for his lawn and home. He was also a faithful member of Nativity of Our Savior.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Magdaline; siblings: Albena, Violet, Edward, Benjamin, and twin sister Dorothy; and dear wife, Patricia.

He is survived by his loving children: Jo Ann (Chuck) Froman, Steve Parker, Marie (Ted) Choucalas, Dean Parker, and Viki Pavlakovic; grandchildren: Hilary (Nick) Froman, Shannon (Chris) Hilley, Jacob Parker, Grace Parker, Sarah Parker, Charissa (Dylan) Ellis, Brittni Choucalas, Tyler Parker, Jordan (Garrett) Piers, Ryan Pavlakovic, Nikolas (Hannah) Pavlakovic, Andrew (Stephany) Hilley, Jackob Hilley; 12 great grandchildren; his four legged friend and protector, Bella; and numerous extended family and friends.

Friends are invited to visit the family on Thursday, March 7, 2024, from 4:00 PM until the time of service at 6:00 PM at Calumet Park Hobart-Portage Chapel (370 N. County Line Road, Hobart, IN 46342). Deacon Dennis Guernsey officiating. Private interment at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Nativity of Our Savior Food Pantry in Portage or Portage Helping Hands. For information, please call 219-940-3791.

John was a precious member of my family’s neighborhood growing up on Rand St. His parents were my “Grandma & Grandpa Nick”. Love & prayers to the family. Another great loss of my childhood. 😢
