Joan Adele Demonja, 80, passed away peacefully on Saturday June 18, 2022 at her home in Valparaiso with her son by her bedside. Joan was born July 5, 1941 to Howard and Shirley Spiller and was originally from Gary, Indiana. She grew up with 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Joan went on and graduated from Calumet High School in 1960.

Joan wed Miles Demonja in 1961 and remained married for 60 years. They raised 3 children together, which grew into 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Joan was a wonderful Mother and Grandmother full of love and happiness.

Joan work her entire life, she was the owner of Morrow’s Nut House in the Southlake mall. She also work 20 plus years as the payroll administer for Calumet Construction in Hammond, IN; as well as The Pangere Corp. in Gary, IN. She finally retired at the age of 65 and then she took care of her youngest daughters children Monday through Friday.

Joan was a member of Valparaiso Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for many years. Joan was a faithful and devoted Christion and faithful follower of Jehovah God for over 50 years. Studying and reading the scriptures was Joan’s favorite thing to do. She spent hours putting spiritual lesson’s together each week to send to everyone in her family. She was hopeful that each one of her family members would come to an accurate knowledge of the truth. Joan’s main priority was making sure her family had a spiritual readiness.

Besides the love and dedication she had for Jehovah and Jesus, in her spare time she enjoyed sewing. Having six siblings was the reason she had to sew, she had a lot of “hand me downs” that she made alterations on. When she retired she took all of the pants from her suits that she wore to work, and turned them into skirts to wear at the Kingdom Hall.

Joan was full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and will be missed by many.

Joan was preceded in death by her husbend of 60 years Miles Demonja; her parents Howard and Shirley Spiller, Sisters Viola Spiller, Virginia Drescher, Bonnie Wengel, and grandson Nathan Bond.

Joan is survived by her 3 Children Michael (Barbara) Demonja, Lorri (Brad) Slayden, Renee Johnston. Grandchildren Michael (Cody) Demonja, Miles (Ashley) Demonja, Jason (Kattie) Bond, Brandon (Jamie) Bond, Austin (Erica) Slayden, Erin (Carsen) Ackley, Alexis Demonja, Alan Johnston. Great Grand children Logan, Audie, Dallas, London, and Jax Bond, Piper and Miles Demonja, and Emma Ackley. Brothers Charles H. (Darlene) Spiller and James E. Spiller, Sister Elain Schlotterbeck.

Joan will be given a Memorial Service at the Valparaiso Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 2, 2022 at 2 pm.
