Janet LaRene Peters, age 84 of New Buffalo, Michigan, passed away May 10, 2026. Janet was born on August 14, 1941 to Bonnie and LaVerne Cheek. On April 23, 1960 she married Gerald (Jerry) Peters who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Emil, Conrad, Wayne and sister Nadine. Janet is survived by her sisters Joyce Peters, Lydia (Rockland) Hausemann and Patricia Patterson. Her children David (Amy) Peters, Michael Peters and Bridget (Randy) Voorhies. Grandchildren, Alexander, Samuel, Randi, Nicholas, Devon, Kaylin(Jon) and Sarah (Chase)

Janet lived her entire life in Calumet Township, Indiana until 2024 before moving to New Buffalo and loved spending her winters in Florida. Janet found great pleasure and fulfillment in working for many years for her son David’s dental practice in Griffith, In. as his dental receptionist. She was a tremendous cook, hosting family for holidays and celebrations. She was also passionate for sewing and gardening and DIY projects. She could do it all and loved You Tube for a little inspiration in her later years. Janet along with her husband of 53 years, fostered many young people and hosted relatives in their home and they both wanted to help someone in need. Janet was a devoted Christian who was a member of Hessville Assembly of God for much of her life. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. A heartfelt appreciation to her daughter in law Amy who took such good care of our mom the last couple years of her life as David and Amy brought her into their home. She cherished it more than you will ever know

A memorial visitation service will be held on Saturday May 30, 2026 from 10am until 12 noon. The memorial service will take place at 12PM noon. Both services will be held at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel located at 7535 W. Taft St. Merrillville, In. 46410.

We truly believe God sent Janet into our lives as an answered prayer when my mother Rita, brother JR, and I needed her most. What began as a babysitter caring for two young children soon became something much more. She and Jerry became family. The love, kindness, and care they shared with us during those years created a bond that lasted a lifetime.

Although life eventually took us in different directions, we were blessed to reconnect with Janet in recent years. Seeing her again brought back so many wonderful memories. We picked up right where we left off, as if no time had passed at all.

Janet will always hold a special place in our hearts. We are deeply thankful for the role she played in our lives, the warmth she shared so freely, and the many happy memories we will continue to cherish. Our lives are richer because she was part of them, and we will miss her so dearly. ♥️
