James Lentz Jr., recently of Wanatah, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at the age of 68.  He was born in Chicago to Lorena and James Lentz Sr., both of whom precede him in death, and was a graduate of T.F. North High School.  He went on to dedicate 33 hardworking years as a Boilermaker at U.S. Steel and was a proud member of the Local 374.

Jim is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Laurie; his beloved children: Mason Lentz, Liam Lentz, Jimmy (Brandon) Matczak-Roe, Melanie (Jeff) Haberlin, and Randy Lentz; his cherished grandchildren: Abram, Charlie, Raine, Kamryn, Trenton, and Madeline; his dear siblings: Timothy Lentz, Alan (Rosemary) Mike (Mary) Lentz, and Janet (Lance) Gamble; as well as his Aunt Peg and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family; and many caring friends from the union.

Jim will forever be loved and fondly remembered by all who were blessed to have known him.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 3:00 – 7:00 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, Indiana 46410.  Funeral services will continue on Wednesday, April 22, at 10:00 AM with Pastor Joe Watterson, also at the Chapel.  Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery.  For information, call 219-736-5840.

to know grandpa, was to love him. I’ll miss hearing “kiddo”. His legacy will live on for generations. my kids will always grow up knowing their great grandpa❤️.

James would come into the Post Office in Wanatah faithfully to send his bills out. I will miss him, and his “Hey Sweetie!” “How are you doin kiddo?!” We would talk a lot about life. He was a sweet man. This makes me so sad. ☹️ 💔
