James John Kozak

March 24, 1936- September 16, 2023

Hobart, IN- James John Kozak, age 87, passed away peacefully with family by his side. 

James was born on March 24, 1936 to Andrew and Mary Kozak of Gary, IN. He attended Lew Wallace School and made lifelong friends while there. After graduation, he started his career in the car business while serving in the Navy Reserves. His passion for cars lead to a career in sales for 42 years before retiring. It was during this time that he was introduced to his future wife Barbara. James was a member of St. Stephen the Martyr Church, a member of the men’s club and a member of the Knights of Columbus. Besides playing basketball through school, he loved to golf and watch his three favorite teams: Notre Dame, The Chicago Bears and the Indiana Hoosiers.

James was preceded in death by his parents Andrew and Mary. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Barbara Vokurka Kozak, his daughters: Susan (Jeffrey)Rietveld of Franklin TN, Mallori Lucas of Hobart IN. He was extremely proud of his four grandchildren: Meghan and Aaron Rietveld, Kyle and Brenna Lucas. James also leaves behind his sister Elizabeth Anderson; sister-in-law, Janice Vokurka of Bowling Green, KY; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Friends and family may visit at Rendina Funeral Home 5100 Cleveland St. Gary, IN on Thursday October 26th from 4-8 p.m. Funeral will be at 10:00 a.m. at Rendina Funeral Home with Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
