2025

James Dennis Wright, also lovingly known as “JW” or “Jim”, 73, of Merrillville, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. He was born on May 1, 1952, in East Chicago, IN, as the only son of the late Dennis and Rena Wright.

Jim was a 50-year member of the Shriners, helping to organize many bike runs for the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital over the years. He was also a proud business owner of many endeavors, such as Wrights Mobile Home Park, Playwright Amusement, Best Home Improvement, and He Ain’t There Lounge.

In his spare time, Jim could be found riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle in 80 degree weather. He will always be remembered for being the life of the party wherever he found himself.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn Wright; son, Jacob James Wright (Kendra); daughter, Genevieve (Scott); stepson, Christopher Bundy (Carrie); four grandchildren, Tabitha Bundy, Azure Lopez Wright, and Beau and Wes Bates; two special nieces, Misty Garrett, and Loretta Holbrook; and a loving host of extended family, friends, and acquaintances.

Funeral services for Jim will begin on Monday, July 21, 2025, with visitation from 4 to 8 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN 46410. A Shriners service will be held at 6 PM Monday evening. On Tuesday, July 22, 2025, funeral services will continue at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel with visitation from 10 to 11 AM and a service at 11 AM. Pastor Mark Wilkins of First United Methodist Church of Crown Point will officiate. Burial will immediately follow Tuesday’s services at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
