2024

Howard Culbertson, 82, of Portage, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 12, 2024.
He was born to David and Arlie Culbertson in Nickelsville, Virginia, but has been calling northwest Indiana home for the last 60 years. He loved being out in nature, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed archery. He loved to cook and would grace the table with the southern style comfort foods that he was brought up on. Above all else, he had the greatest love for his family and friends. He was an exceptional caregiver and provider and will be immensely missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents; as well as Helen Fay Culbertson, his first wife and mother to his five children; his second wife, Diane Ketner Culbertson; brothers: Seibert Culbertson and David Culbertson, and sisters: Thelma Culbertson and Naomi Lane.
Howard’s legacy survives in his children: David G. Culbertson, Vincent S. (Autumn) Culbertson, Deborah L. (Martin) Van Der Harst, Anita D. (Jeff) Barnas, and Patricia A. (Scott) Artz; stepchildren: Michael and Jeremie Ketner, and Nick and Chris Hensler; 4 grandchildren: Theresa Dayney, Emily Artz, Clayton Culbertson, and Jason Barnas; great grandson, Mason; and sisters, Fern Dockery and Jean (Larry) Richardson.
Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, from 11 AM until time of service at 1 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville). Pastor Bob Parnell officiating. Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. For additional information, call 219-736-5840.
