Helen Sopko (nee Kuzma), age 91, of Portage, Indiana passed away on February 17, 2023. Helen was born on April 22, 1931 to John and Katie Kuzma in Gary, Indiana. She was proceeded in death by her husband George M. Sopko and two sisters Ann Berta, Mary Rusak. Helen is survived by her four children: Kathryn (Thomas) Walsh, George (Mary) Sopko Jr., Mary Ann (George) Koselke, and John (Susan) Sopko. six grandchildren: James (Charissa) Perry, Robert (Cede) Perry, Lauren (Nathan) Weaver, Lisa Koselke (Brenton Elisberg), Brian Sopko, John Koselke and seven great grandchildren.

Helen was a graduate of Tolleston High School and became a banking professional working at Gary National Bank and later retiring from the Northern Trust Company, Chicago.

Helen’s greatest passion was loving and caring for her family. Fond memories include her hosting
summer family trips to Indiana Beach in Monticello, Indiana, family birthdays and holiday celebrations.

She was kind, wise, and resilient. She always gave us the best guidance and advice. She will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be at held Wednesday February 22, 2023 from 2 – 6 pm at Calumet Park Chapel – Hobart.

Funeral Mass will be held at Nativity of Our Savior Church, Portage on February 23rd at 10:00 am.
Interment at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Opportunity Enterprises 2801 Evans Avenue Valparaiso, IN 46368.
