2024

Helen Ann Hameetman (nee Lee), aged 89, of Portage, Indiana, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2024. Born on July 31, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois, she was a loving mother, an adoring grandmother, a doting great-grandmother, a devoted partner, and a treasured friend.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Martha Lee; and son-in-laws, Michael Reilly and Aron Farmer. She is survived by her children: Sharon Reilly (Don Narjes), Deborah Farmer, Stephen Hameetman, and Kristin English (Jonathan); Grandchildren: Susie Isakson, Jenny Cosgrove (Tim), Andrew English (Neveah Eklund); Great Grandchildren: Adam, Jeremy, Lukas, Katie, Ryan; and a great-great Grandchild expected this summer. She also leaves behind her loving partner Jim Ronchi.

Helen’s life was characterized by her fierce love for her family, her unwavering commitment to her loved ones, and her nurturing spirit. She was the heart of countless cherished family gatherings, where she could often be found engaging in spirited games of hide and seek with her grandchildren, a testament to her youthful spirit.

A woman of intelligence and beauty, Helen enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid player of cards, a solver of crossword puzzles, and a regular viewer of “Jeopardy!” alongside her beloved partner, Jim. Her kindness was as profound as her wit, and her laughter was a gift that brightened the lives of those around her. A lifelong Cubs fan, Helen enjoyed watching baseball games in the summer. Helen also made numerous lifelong connections during her 27 years as a registration clerk at Our Lady Of Mercy Hospital in Dyer.

Helen had a unique appreciation for the world’s natural wonders, as seen in her love for watching the manatees during her time in the Florida Keys. She never met a stray animal that she didn’t take in to care for and was particularly fond of German shepherds. Her signature neck kisses and fondness for a well-mixed dirty martini were emblematic of her joyous approach to life.

Her passing leaves a void in the lives of those she touched, but her memory will live on as a beacon of love, laughter, and grace. Helen’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and the enduring bonds of family. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Celebration of life service in honor of Helen will be held at Portage First United Methodist Church; 2637 McCool Road, Portage , Indiana 219-762-3846, on Saturday, February 24th at 1:00PM.
