It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Fred De St. Jean on March 19, 2025. Fred passed away peacefully in Irvine, California.
Fred was born in Gary, Indiana, on November 9, 1963, the eighth child of the late Joe and Ethel (née Nash) De St. Jean. Raised in Crown Point, Fred was a 1982 graduate of Crown Point High School. He carried the Bulldog spirit with him throughout his life.
Following graduation, Fred joined the armed forces. He served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps, a service that filled his life with pride and purpose. During his time in the military, he was stationed in Japan.
Fred eventually settled in California where he raised his sons and spent many weekends dirt biking, skiing and attending sporting events. After obtaining his bachelor’s degree from Cal State Long Beach he built a career in security management. In recent years, he founded his own business, Lumberjax Firewood. Although a longtime California resident, Fred was always proud of his Indiana roots and never wavered from his love of the Cubs and Blackhawks.
Fred is survived by his sons, Richard (Madeline) and Daniel, along with his sisters Sandra, Beverly, Barbara, Cyndi, Sarah and Debbie, many wonderful nephews and nieces, and lifelong friends who became family. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Butch and Gary, and nephew Kevin.
He will be laid to rest next to his parents in Merrillville, Indiana on Wednesday April 9, 2025. The family wishes to extend an invitation to those who knew and loved him to a graveside committal service on April 9. 11:30 a.m. meet at the Funeral Chapel located at 7535 W Taft St, Merrillville 46410 for 11:45 am procession to the cemetery. 12 noon committal service at the grave site.
