Frances V. Fuentes, age 93, of East Chicago, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.  Frances was born in Waco, Texas on April 21, 1929, to Silviano and Virginia Vargas. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 66 years, Santiago “Chago” Fuentes Sr.; and dear siblings: John, Basilio, Margarite, and Josephine. Along with grandchildren Michael Raketich, Miguel Carrera Jr. and Isaac Vasquez III. Survived by her youngest sister Henrietta Serna Gonzalez. Loved by her children: Santiago Jr. (Lucy) Fuentes, Manuel (Patricia) Fuentes, Linda Fuentes, Ester Carrera, Serafin (Elena) Fuentes, Manuelita (Miguel) Guerrero, and Aurelio “Al” Fuentes; Adored by her many grandchildren as well as great grandchildren.  Frances was a successful business owner in East Chicago for many decades.  In addition to her many years serving her customers, she also worked as a crossing guard in East Chicago and volunteered as a candy striper at St. Catherine’s Hospital.  She was a dedicated parishioner at St. Mary’s Church in East Chicago. In her younger days, she and her husband enjoyed riding motorcycles, dancing, and playing pool.  Her greatest love was her family and treasured her time with them celebrating holidays and family gatherings.   Frances will forever be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.   She will be immeasurably missed by all who were blessed to know her. “Vaya con Dios Mama”.  Visitation will be Friday, March 3, 2023, from 4:00 – 8:00 pm at Calumet Park HOBART Chapel (370 North County Line Road, Hobart, Indiana) with a celebration of life. Saturday March 4th the funeral service will take place at 10:00 am @ St. Mary’s Catholic Church (802 W 144th St, East Chicago, Indiana). Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery 2305 W. 73rd Ave. Merrillville, Indiana.  For more information, please call 219-940-3791.

She was such a wonderful woman, as Henrietta’s (my neighbor) sister, she always treated us like family. The whole family always has. She always asked about our family, making sure they were all okay. She will be missed!! Love to all of her family, our prayers are with you. ❤️❤️❤️
