Ernestine Machnik (nee Maley) passed away in Chesterton, Indiana on August 8, 2022 at the age of 95. She was born on July 27, 1927 in Lorain, Ohio, to Ernest Maley and Kathryn Maley (nee Toth).

Ernestine graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1945 and from Oberlin School of Commerce. She worked as a legal secretary with the law firm of Cook and Batista, then Wickens, Herzer, Panza, Cook and Batista before retiring in 1992. She was a member of St. Stanislaus and St. Peter church in Lorain and St. Patrick church in Chesterton, Indiana where they moved in 2013 to be closer to family.

She enjoyed traveling, photography and volunteering as a reading monitor for children. Ernestine was married for 67 years to Joseph Machnik who preceded her death in 2018. She is survived by her son Dan, daughter-in-law Margo and beloved granddaughter, Summer. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and her loving caregiver, Dee Dee Emery.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, sister Mary “Pat” Mitroff, brothers-in-law Theodore Machnik, Edmund Tomawski, Andrew Scislowski and John Machnik and sisters-in law, Lillian Machnik, Helen Scislowski, Ann Tomawski and Regina Machnik.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church 638 N Calumet, Chesterton, IN 46304 with interment at Calumet Park Cemetery following a brief meet up at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel 7535 Taft St, Merrillville, IN 46410. Please contact the family for details.
