Emiliano Elix Franco

1932

-

2025

Emiliano “Emil” Franco, 92, formerly of Medaryville, Indiana passed away peacefully on January 25th, 2025, in Hobart, Indiana. Emil was born on July 20, 1932, in Indiana Harbor, Indiana to the late Canuto and Rafaela (Gomez) Franco. He was raised in a loving home on the farm with his siblings. From this grew his passion for horses and throughout his life he was a proud member of
several different equine associations. From a young age, he understood the value of hard work, starting his career early at Inland steel in Indiana Harbor as a laborer in 1948. In November of 1952 he was drafted into the U.S Army. He deployed with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team, traveling to Japan via the U.S.S. Black and ultimately serving the rest of his time in Korea during the Korean War until he returned home in 1954 via the U.S.S. Phoenix. Upon his return home, he resumed his job at Inland steel where he met his beloved wife, Barbara Penman. They were married on September 6th, 1958, and settled in Dyer, Indiana where they had three children together. They remained devoted to one another for 22 years until Barbara’s passing in late 1980. Years later, Emil was able to find love again when he met his cherished wife, Susan Ferguson. The two were married in 1993 and together they moved to Medaryville, Indiana where they lived until Sue’s passing in early 2023. Emil retired from Inland Steel after 45 years of service. Emil will be greatly missed, especially for his silly jokes, quick witty responses, and ability to make even a stranger laugh.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Margaret Munoz, Frank Zaragosa, Frances Gutierrez, and Paul Franco; the mother of his children and wife Barbara Franco, wife Susan Franco, and son Gregory Franco. He is survived by his children, son Bryan (Barbara) Franco and daughter Leah Franco; 3 grandchildren Steven Parrish, Katelyn (Adam) Marse, and Andrew Franco; 1 great-
granddaughter Khloe Marse; his sister Rose Mary Monsivais (Ralph); and numerous nieces, nephews and other devoted relatives and friends.

The funeral services will be held Friday January 31st, 2025 at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft St., Merrillville Indiana. Viewing from 10am-1pm with burial immediately following at Calumet Park Cemetery..
