Elizabeth June (Murray) Kachur, of Schererville, formerly of Merrillville, passed away on May 15, 2026. She was born in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of George Robert Murray and Mary Gloria (Gordier) Murray. On April 10, 1965, she married John Kachur.

June is survived by her three children: daughter Rebecca (John) DeLorenzo; sons Peter (Stephanie) and Douglas (Louonna); eight grandchildren—Lauren, Jonah, and Mitchell DeLorenzo; Lucy, Peter, Piper, Margaux, and Drew Kachur; her brother-in-law Don (Diane) Kachur and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her

parents and her brothers Alton Murray and George “Buzz” Murray. June attended SS. Peter and Paul School and graduated from Merrillville High School in 1960. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Ball State Teachers College and a Master of Science from Indiana University, where she also completed additional graduate

studies.

She began her teaching career in the Gary Public Schools before spending 34 years serving the Diocese of Gary. For the final 17 years of her career, she was the principal of Aquinas Catholic Community School in Merrillville.

Above all, June found her greatest joy in her family. She celebrated every accomplishment of her children and grandchildren with pride, love, and enthusiasm.
