Eleni Karas,  age 87, of Crown Point,IN passed  on Thursday, March 23, 2023.

She was born in Tihio, Kastoria, Greece on March 12, 1936. Eleni was preceded in death by her loving parents: Kosmas and Anastasia Saricos; her brothers: Panagiotis and Thomas Saricos; brothers in law: Harris Tafakis, and Panagiotis Kontogiorgos. Eleni is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Petros Karas; children: Jim Karas and Anastasia (Kostas) Koutouvas; grandchildren: Gabrielle (Richard) Hines, Katerina (Michael) Stam, Eleni ( Daniel) Priewe; great grandchildren: Peter Joseph and Anastasia (Annie) Rae Priewe; sisters in law:: Milka Saricos, Marianthi Sarikos, Anna Kontogiorgos, and Stratia Tafakis; brother in law: Theofilos (Maria) Karas; along with many cousins,  nieces, nephews, and other family members and dear friends. She immigrated from Greece at a young age but never forgot her roots. She loved to garden with her husband, cook and bake delicious Greek meals and pastries, and knit and crochet.  She was loved by anyone who knew her and brought joy to every room she walked in. She was a devout Orthodox Christian and member of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Merrillville, IN. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Sunday, March 26, 2023 from 3-7 pm at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville,IN 46410. Trisagion ( prayer service) offered at 3:30 pm. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 27, 2023 at 10:00 am, directly at SS. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison St., Merrillville, IN 46410. Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
