Edward R. Massow Jr., age 91, passed away on August 29, 2025, in Bolingbrook, Illinois, where he had been residing with his daughter and family, all of whom were with him as he passed.
Born and raised in Hobart, Indiana, Ed spent much of his life in Merrillville and DeMotte, Indiana with his wife Greta. Ed and Greta met in high school and were married in 1957. Their lives were blessed by the love of two daughters, Sharri and Tami along with extended family, friends and neighbors. Ed and Greta’s kitchen hosted countless hours of grandchildren crafting from the “junk drawer,” or friends playing cards and dice until dawn. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and godfather, known for his kindness, generosity, and strong work ethic.
Ed took pride in being a provider for his loved ones. After a 35-year career at Gary Screw and Bolt Works/Modulus Corp., he began a second career at Indiana Botanicals, where he continued to work with dedication until he was no longer able.
Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife Greta (Otto), daughter Tamera “Tami” Lolkema, brother Otto, and parents Edward and Lillian (Fasel). He is survived by his daughter Sharri Grise, son-in-law Keith Williams, son-in-law Jake Lolkema, grandchildren Ian Grise, Michelle Grise and her partner Cody Koster, Hannah Grise, and Olivia Lolkema as well as his great-grandchild Braydyn Grise, along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends who loved him dearly. Ed held a special affection for cats and dogs, and was both preceded and survived by several “fur babies” and “grand-fur babies.”
His impact will live on in the hearts of his family and all who were blessed to know him. He will be remembered as a man who gave his all to both his work and his family.

Uncle Ed will always live in my spirit as a loving ,kind and generously loving man. His hugs were extraordinary- you ALWAYS felt well-loved when he held you <3 I will miss his laugh- full and filled with just plain joy at being in his company . I am filled with SO many memories of the times he spent with my mom and dad[Bill and Dottie Horst] He was a frequent visitor and ALWAYS had time for them…even when they could no longer get around- he would call or just show up with his loving and caring ways. I find great comfort in knowing Uncle Ed, Aunt Greta and mom and dad ,are most likely"living it up' in Paradise….'shooting the breeze 'together. Thank you for sharing these extraordinary people with me- I am better because of it! <3 Much love,Uncle Ed…..save a space for me- and LOTS of hugs, please!
