Edward Joseph Piontek, 73, of Portage, passed away peacefully at home with his loving family at his side on Sunday, June 21st, 2026.

Ed was a dedicated employee at Inland Steel, covering many departments throughout his 32 years of service before his retirement, and then kept himself busy after retirement from the steel mill with his employment at (and subsequent retirement from) a number of area hardware stores.

He was a faithful and devoted member at church and was extremely active with the South Haven Lions Club for more than 20 years. His strong work ethic, kind spirit, and deep faith aided him in raising a family full of love with whom he could share great laughs and lifelong memories.

Ed leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Laura; his loving children: Bryan Piontek, Steven Piontek, and Rebecca (Colton) Lawrence; treasured grandchildren: Abby Piontek, Cara Lawrence, Katy Lawrence, Destiny Piontek, Sarah Piontek, and Joseph Piontek; dear siblings: Christine (Christ) Angelov, Robert Piontek, Michael Piontek, and Gerald “Jake” Piontek; as well as many precious friends and extended family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward John and Lauretta Piontek.

Ed will forever be remembered for his comforting smile and limitless sense of humor.  He was looked to by many as a teacher, mentor, and helping hand who had contributed greatly to his community. He will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to have him in their lives.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 29^th, 2026, from 9:00 AM until the time of funeral service at 10:30 AM at Portage First Methodist Church (2637 McCool Rd, Portage, IN 46368).
