Dolores Benak (nee Gyurcsan), of Hebron, passed away at 84 years on Wednesday, November 26, 2025.

Beloved wife to Michael Benak Jr., devoted and proud mother to Debbie (Wendy) Benak, Donna (Kevin) Custer, and Denise Benak; loving sister to Carol (Terry) Spanier and Jacquelin (Jim) Misiukiewicz and adoring grandmother to Kyle and Kayla Custer and great grandchild, Kyrie. 

She is preceded in death by her husband Michael, and her parents John and Ethel Gyurcsan. 

Dolores will always be remembered for a sparkle of mischief in her eye and a hearty, whooping laugh that filled every room she entered. A talented homemaker, caretaker and cook, Dolores was happiest surrounded by her family, making sure everyone was happy and well fed. She especially loved sharing time with longtime friends and her youngest daughter, Denise. In summer, she enjoyed wearing a baseball jersey and cheering for her Cubs, win or lose. In the winter months, she enjoyed the warmth of her visits to Mexico and the southwest. Every Sunday, you could find her at St. Helen’s Church, then in her kitchen preparing food for a Bears or Cubs game. 

Her presence, her spirit, and her love will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her.

In accordance with Dolores’ wishes, cremation has been chosen. Calumet Park Funeral Chapel of Merrillville has been entrusted with arrangements.
