REMEMBERING

Cheryl Hallo

Cheryl Hallo, age 81, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2026, surrounded by loving family.

She joins in Heavenly Eternity: her devoted husband, George Hallo Jr.; her parents, Russell and Marie Hanson; and her sister, Sharon Ball.

Cheryl was a loving mother to George (Dawn) Hallo and Dawn (Butch) Stremplewski; cherished grandmother to Hannah and Gabi Hallo, Lara (Seth) Richardson, Steve (Sonya) Stremplewski, and Stephanie Stremplewski; dear sister of Hadley (Kathy) Hanson and Russell Hanson; and friend to all.

Cheryl was most affectionately known as “Mrs. Cheryl” to the many, many, adored preschool children she helped to care for throughout her years. She enjoyed gardening and flowers, and was a proud member of her local garden club. She loved cats and took in a number of feline friends throughout the years, making sure they were warm, comfortable, and well fed.

Cheryl treasured any time she could spend with her family – time that was so extraordinarily documented that she was named the “Official Picture Taker” at every gathering. During the Holidays, our Mom cooked many traditional meals for our extended family. She never said no to the many parties her beloved husband assembled. Her kind heart and comforting smile will truly be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 4-8 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street Merrillville, IN 46410).
Visitation will continue on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 9:00 to 9:30 AM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel before procession to 10:00 AM Funeral at St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church (557 W. 57th Ave., Merrillville, IN 46410). Rev. Michal Bucko officiating. Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville. For information, call 219-736-5840.

George III (Dawn) Hallo and Dawn (Butch) Stremplewski and family.

We express our deepest and sincere condolences to you and your family.

I would like to thank you for all the great memories created and shared when I first moved to Chicago in 1993. There are too many to share here.

Your family offered and accepted me for any and all occasions no matter what it was. That’s rare to find especially today and is truly special.

Fourth of July, Bar B Q’s any time of the day, Birthdays – even my own, anniversaries, Bears – Notre Dame games – the best were Easter – Sunday’s – Travelling to Indiana to get “The prize” Sunday of the Lamb …. The Lamb…, Best!!

What was always special was the spectacular Thanksgiving dinners – there wasn’t just Turkey but other meats like sausage etc you name it … and the plans Dawn and her had for the next day.

I loved to hear their stories when they came back (Always holding their ground but exhausted – but still had energy for more). Along with Christmas’ and so much more.

But at the center of it all was your mother.  A truly loving sincere and caring person.

I really enjoyed talking with her at the kitchen table while the celebration was happening. The sky was the limit – it could be anything – cooking – gardening – local politics.

Talking about quick wit and opinion, she had it and gave it when needed. She stumped me more than a few of times. I also remember someone’s face as well holding a grin – knowing not to say anything else. I/we/they knew she was right. Don’t say another word …. They were the Best of times.

Thank you for including us to be a part of – Your family.

Love to you all – Bruce and Liana.
