-

2025

Cathy Kim Ireland was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away unexpectedly on January 9th, 2025, at the age of 70.

Born on May 7th, 1954, to Robert and Gwendolyn. After graduating from Griffith High School, she spent her early years working in Merrillville and Chicago for Prudential Services. During this time, she found her eternal salvation at a small Baptist Church in Hegewisch, IL where she met her husband, Robert Ireland. They married on March 9th, 1974, and shared 50 wonderful years together in marriage, raising their four children.

Cathy is survived by her loving husband, Robert Ireland; children Jeremy, Matthew (Heidi), John, and Alicia (Matthew Hicks); sister Jan (Mike Hatler); stepsiblings, Steven, Roxanne, Marty, Randy, and Karen; nieces and nephews including Elizabeth, Dennis, Christopher, and Rachel; and her cherished grandchildren, Kylie, Justin, Alyssa, Aven, Aiden, Selah, Nolan, and Loralai. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert, Gwendolyn, and stepmother Ann and her brother, Robert.

Known for her kindness, gentle nature, and genuine spirit, Cathy will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was a fantastic cook, often preparing more than enough to share with friends and family who were always welcome at her dinner table. Raised in a large, blended family, Cathy developed a love for homemaking early on. She found joy in reading her Bible, nurturing her family, and most of all, embracing her role as “Mom.”

A funeral service will be held on January 15th, 2025, at the Calumet Park Funeral Chapel located at 7535 Taft St., Merrillville, IN 46410. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 4 – 8 PM with a planned service scheduled at 7 PM. Please contact the funeral home for flower arrangements.

I am blessed to have called her sister. We had so many wonderful adventures as teens and though the adventures faded as we both got married and had families, there was always a tight bond between us. I remember being so happy when I learned of her accepting Jesus as he personal savior. She was loved and respected by everyone. She will be missed.
