REMEMBERING

Bernice Jones

1939

2026

Bernice Faye Jones (nee Kellar) passed away peacefully on June 5, 2026, at the age of 86. She was born in East Chicago to Raymond and Georgia Kellar and quickly started growing a life of love, faith, and service to others.

On December 8, 1955, she married Anthony “Ted” Hucko, and from that union came 8 beautiful children. She and Ted raised their family until his passing in 1993. On April 29 of 2000 she married Norman “Norm” Jones and gained 4 more children into her life and her heart.

Bernice was always a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She kept her family her highest priority, second only to her dedication to God. Her grandkids were her world, and she was proud to be their biggest fan at their sporting events.

She loved reading, and found peace in building puzzles. The only drama she encountered was in the stories that were told on The Young & the Restless, which she had watched for 50 years.

Family was the most important thing to her. For years, she spent the summers camping with the family at Campers Roost and enjoying time out by the pool. She also enjoyed many an afternoon fishing with her second husband. Bernice loved hosting the holidays…she was the glue that kept the family together. She loved music and dancing the jitterbug. She loved all animals and always had a furry friend to keep her company.

Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ronald Kellar; her first husband, Anthony Hucko, Sr.; her children: Mark (late Barbara) Hucko, Michael Hucko, and Thomas Hucko; granddaughters: Virginia Hucko, Jenny Hucko, and Naomi Hucko; and her second husband, Norman Jones.

She is survived by her beloved children: Anthony Hucko Jr., David (Leticia) Hucko, Lisa (Edward) Bank, Daniel (Larz) Hucko, and Matthew (Lisa) Hucko; daughter in law, Susan Hucko; her stepchildren: Vicki Aranda, Christopher (Debra Guenther) Jones, Patricia (Andrew Wardrip) Jones, and Tracie Jones; 16 treasured grandchildren and 9 cherished great grandchildren; sister in law, Barbara Kellar; sister in law and brother in law, Kay and David Scott; many nieces, nephews, and extended family, and numerous dear friends.

Bernice was the best at telling stories from her past. She would always say “We had a Good Time”…… and all of her family and friends are now blessed with wonderful memories of GREAT times.

All are invited to visit with Bernice’s family from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN 46410).
