Arvine Plemons

Valparaiso, IN (formerly of Whiting)

Our beloved father, Arvine Plemons, age 86, passed away on June 26, 2023 Arvine was born in Kingston, Tennessee on July 23, 1936. Arvine was a loving, compassionate, headstrong, and humble man with a passion for helping those in need. This led him to become a Patrol Officer for the Whiting Police Department in 1967. He continued to serve that community for over 20 years, eventually retiring as Police Chief.

Arvine’s favorite role in life was being a husband, father, and grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his family. Sharing life’s greatest moments with them brought him pure joy. You could always find him plotting his next prank or telling his next joke, with his main target being his beloved wife. His quick-witted personality will be extremely missed.

Arvine is survived by his children Bret (Nicole) Plemons, Pamela Plemons, Christopher (Krissy) Plemons, and Jeffrey (Tammy) Plemons; grandchildren Holly (Jason), Abigail, Brooke, Justin, Austin, Aidan, Evan, and Allie; great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Jessa, Ashton and Zander; and siblings Howard Plemons and Lil Atteberry. Arvine is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley Plemons, daughter Hope Anne, parents James and Carrie Plemons, and eight brothers and sisters.

Friends may meet with family on Friday, June 30 th from 3-6 PM with a Memorial Service starting 6PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7545 Taft Street, Merrillville, IN

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Arvine’s honor to St. Jude’s Children Hospital. The family wishes to thank all of those who helped care for him during his last days.

Uncle Arvine was an amazing man! There was nothing he could not fix, and no one he wouldn’t hep out. He was the biggest prankster and jokester we’ve ever known. He always had a smile on his face, and made everyone have one on their’s. He loved being around family and friends. Always made everyone feel comfortable and loved!!!
He will be truly missed by all who knew him. The world is a little more empty without him!!!
Rest well Uncle Arvine, you deserve it from all your hard work on Earth. Join Aunt Shirley. I know she was waiting to welcome you into Heaven. And all those loved ones that went before you.
Our love and prayers to the entire family!💕🙏🏻

As you grieve the passing of your loved one, know that you have many people who care about you and who want to help you in any way that we can. Our deepest condolences to the Plemons family.
