Arminda Velasquez, 93, of Gary, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, January 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family.
She joins in eternity her parents: Eusevio and Marcela Pena; her beloved husband, Juan; brother, Greg Pena and sister, Lupe Rodriguez; son, Federico Velasquez; daughter, Sandra Velasquez; and grandson Jose (Joey) Luis Velasquez.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children: Francisco Velasquez, Arminda Perez, Juan Velasquez, Arturo (Sherry) Velasquez, Alfredo Velasquez, Cynthia Velasquez, and Sylvia (Arnold) Perez; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
Arminda was known to be the essential homemaker for her family – always in the kitchen serving up tamales, soup, sugared tortillas, wisdom, love, and smiles to all. She loved watching the Cubs and the Bears play, celebrating their wins and cussing them out over their losses. More than anything, she was immensely proud of all her babies (and their babies, and their babies). She will truly be missed by all who were blessed to have known her.
Visitation Wednesday, January 31, 2024, from 4 – 8 PM, at Rendina Funeral Home (5100 Cleveland Street, Gary, Indiana). Funeral services will be 11 AM on Thursday, February 1, 2024, with an additional visitation starting at 10 AM, also at Rendina Funeral Home. Fr. Keith Virus officiating. Interment Calumet Park Cemetery.
