Andrew J. Panas of Schererville IN., (formerly Merrillville), passed away October 11, 2023, at the age of 89. Beloved husband of 62 years to Elpida (nee Micheloudaki); loving father to Hara Kremmidas (Kostas), John Panas (Mary), and Mia Panas; and grandchildren: Stefan and Andrew Kremmidas, Elle Pantazis (Nick) and Aron Panas; and his wonderful great granddaughter, Ava Pantazis. Also survived by brothers in law, sisters in law and many nephews and nieces in Greece and the US. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Harikleia Panagiotopoulos; siblings: Giorgios Panagiotopoulos, Konstantinos Panagiotopoulos, Christina Maginas, Vasiliki Fokas, and twin sister, Efthalia Maginas.

In 1955, Andrew immigrated to the US from Lefka, Kalavryta, Greece and settled in Gary, Indiana. He retired from US Steel, Gary Works after 30 years of service. He enjoyed many trips to Greece, gardening, walking, and listening to Greek (Dimotika) music. Most of all, he loved spending time with his cherished family. He was a life-long member of SS. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Merrillville, IN. Andrew was full of love, faith, joy, and empathy. His big smile, genuine love, and humility will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, October 14th starting at 9:30 am until the time of funeral services at 10:00 am. Located at SS. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 8000 Madison Street, Merrillville, IN. Fr. Dimitrios Burikas, and Fr. Demetrios Kounavis will officiate the service. Interment to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville, IN.
