Christine Flynn, 78, of Merrillville, passed away on Sunday, September 13, 2026.

Christine was a life-long resident of the Region, attending school in both Gary and Merrillville. After graduating high school, she went on to attend Purdue University North Central campus, where she proudly obtained her associates degree with honors.

She spent many years working with Commercial Bank and at Direct Buy, where she met many dear friends and colleagues.

Christine had the biggest heart and was an extraordinary caregiver. She never missed an opportunity to find a way to bring a smile to the face of those she treasured. She loved baking and would often gift baked goods “just because”. She was also a very talented artist who would spend hours creating and personalizing hand-crafted cards for her friends and family for every occasion. She could be relied on at any time to help with errands and made sure that her brother, James, was never alone at a doctor appointment.

She delighted in window shopping – especially around Christmas time when she and her friend, Diana, would visit downtown Chicago to view the displays and treat themselves to Frango Mints. In her later years, they would find comparable trips closer to home and Albanese Candy was always among the excursions.

Christine will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by many, especially her brother: James Flynn; her sister: Sandra Townend and Sandra’s son, Neil; her dearest friend, Diana Sukta; and many beloved extended family.

Christine was laid to rest with her parents, John and Isabell Flynn, and her brother, Richard Flynn, in a private ceremony at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, Indiana.
