Macario Arturo Fuentes, of Lake Station, Indiana, age 79, passed away on Sunday, September 27, 2026. Macario had been a resident of Lake Station/Hobart for 54 years. He was born in Tarimoro, Guanajuato in Mexico on November 13, 1946, and emigrated to the United States in 1973. He retired from U.S. Steel after 31 years. 

Macario lived a life of faith and service.  He served as a member of the U.S.W.A. Local No. 1014, St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Honorary Life Member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Clement Council 3283, as well as the Santa Maria Venegas Assembly 2712 of the 4th Degree and was a founding member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Society. Before moving to Indiana, Macario proudly served as president of the “Peregrinos “ to the OLG Basilica in Mexico City for several years.  

Macario always enjoyed gardening, keeping busy with home improvement projects, and traveling. He built his life centered around family, faith, and love.  He was respected, loved, and admired by many in his communities in Tarimoro and Indiana.  

Macario is survived by his loving and adored wife of 56 years, Carmen Fuentes; children, María (Francisco) Ramírez, who carries the Fuentes strength, determination and pride, Arturo Fuentes (Diana Solis), who inherited Macario’s big heart and taught him to be a strong man who loves with abundance and without limits, Christina Fuentes (Cesar Roman), who inherited his independent spirit, work ethic, and determination to proudly stand on her own, Javier Fuentes who carries Macario’s open heart to love and shows it with laughter, food, kindness and simply being there for the people he loves; the grandchildren privileged to carry his legacy are Fco. Javier Ramírez, Amaya Roman, Analisa Fuentes, Macario Ramírez, Jeremiah Fuentes, Victoria Ramírez, Natalia Roman, Ezra Roman, and Oliver Roman; special grand-niece Anabella Yañez; and bonus granddaughters, Jasmine Toweson, and Niyeli Harsin. 

Macario is also survived by his siblings, Rosaura Fuentes Flores, Raquel Yañez, Ofelia Fuentes Aguado, José Luis Fuentes (Guadalupe), Miguel (Teresita) Fuentes, and Jaime (Elicia) Fuentes;  devoted nephews, Alejandro (Barbara) Yañez, and Roberto (Loni) Yañez; along with numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.  He was blessed with many special and beloved family, friends, and compadres.  

Macario was preceded in death by his parents, Miguel and Maria Soledad Fuentes; daughter, Monica; and brothers, Gonzalo and Victor Fuentes.  

Visitation is on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel of Hobart, 370 N. County Line Road, Hobart, IN. Funeral services on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 2447 Putnam St. Lake Station, IN, with a Christian Burial Mass at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Jaime Perea officiating. Burial will follow Mass on Saturday at Calvary Cemetery, Portage IN.
