Catherine “Kay” Placzkowski (nee Cacich), age 95, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of a life beautifully lived.
Kay was a woman whose greatest joy was her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed, with whom she shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. Their life together was built on love, family, and countless memories that will be treasured forever.
Kay was the loving mother of Dave (Judy) Placzkowski and Lynne (Michael) Hayes. She was a devoted grandmother to Lisa (Cameron) Baggerman, Paul (Mary) Placzkowski, and Abby (fiancé Brian) Placzkowski. Her heart was full when she was with her three great-grandchildren, Xander and Makenzie Placzkowski and Eloise Baggerman. She cherished every moment with them and took great pride in watching her family grow through the generations.
Kay was also the last surviving sibling of seven. While she carried the memories of her brothers and sisters with her, she leaves behind a large extended family of loving nieces and nephews who will forever remember her with affection and gratitude.
Those who knew Kay will remember her not simply for the years she lived, but for the love she gave so freely. She was a steady and cherished presence in the lives of those around her—a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and friend whose place in her family can never be filled.
Though she is now reunited with Ed and her beloved siblings, Kay’s love lives on in the family she nurtured and the many lives she touched. Her memory will be carried forward in stories shared, traditions continued, and in the love of each generation that came after her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 from 9:30 AM followed immediately with a chapel service at 11:30 AM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, In. 46410).
