REMEMBERING

Dimitri Stefanoski

1951

-

2026

Dimitri Stefanoski, age 74, of Crown Point, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, at home, surrounded by the family he built his whole life around.

Dimitri was born on October 22, 1951, in Orovnik, Macedonia, to Zivko and Cveta Stefanoski, and was raised there. On August 24, 1978, he left the only home he had ever known and brought his family to America, carrying little more than a willingness to work and a belief that the next generation would have it easier. He was right.

On January 6, 1975, he was united in marriage to Elica. Together they shared 51 years, three children, and a partnership that carried them through every chapter that followed.

Dimitri spent many years at ABC Rail before he and Elica opened Dimitri’s Catering in March of 1998. What began as hard work became his life’s joy. For nearly three decades, his kitchen fed the weddings, baptisms, and celebrations of countless families across the region, and no one left his table hungry or unwelcome.

He was happiest surrounded by people — family at the table, friends dropping in, the house loud and full. His grandchildren were his pride and his greatest joy, and he never missed a chance to spoil them. A devoted member of Sts. Peter and Paul Macedonian Orthodox Church, his faith was quiet, steady, and lived out in how he treated the people around him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Elica; his children, Elizabeth (Toni) Basoski, Renata Petreska, and Zarko (Kristie) Stefanoski; his grandchildren, Nicole, Anya, Andrew, Makayla, Michael, Anthony, and Katelyn; and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Zivko and Cveta Stefanoski; his brother, Naum (Vasilka) Stefanoski; his sister, Krstinka Bozinoska; his son-in-law, Saso Petreski; his parents-in-law, Bogoja and Golabinka Mateski; and his kum, Zivko Trajkovski.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 11am at S.S. Peter & Paul Macedonian Orthodox Cathedral, 9660 Broadway, Crown Point Indiana with V. Rev Georgij Gligorov and V. Rev Aleksandar Mitrov officiating. Visitation for Dimitri will begin at 10am until the time of Funeral Service. Interment Calumet Park Cemetery. May His Memory be Eternal.
