Sylvia Z. (Stalbaum) Moralez, 73, of Hobart, passed away on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus in Merrillville. She was born on May 17, 1953, in Gary, to the late Teddy and Beverly (Hattabaugh) Volochati.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Renae (Bill) Neuenfeld, and Jason (Christie) Morales; granddaughters, Kaitlyn Morales, Taylor Morales, and Emily Neuenfeld; siblings, Sharon Gamble, Martha (Mike) Rae, Ida (Bob) Castillo, Jennifer (John) Shutts, and George (Amy) Volochati; and a loving host of extended family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her siblings, Kenneth (Jackie) Stalbaum, Sandra (Ted) Nester, Sue (David) Birch, Teenie (Andy) Lonce, and Teddy “Little T” Volochati.

Sylvia worked in the dietary care department of Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus for over 10 years.

Sylvia’s greatest joy in life was her granddaughters, lovingly known as “her girls”. She enjoyed spending time with them, taking them shopping, grabbing a bite to eat, and simply being their devoted grandmother.

Sylvia will best be remembered as a fun-loving, selfless, and caring woman who will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In accordance with Sylvia’s wishes, cremation has been chosen. The family will be holding private services and Sylvia will be laid to rest in Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville at a later date.
