James Edward Morgan, 78, of Merrillville, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026. He was born on August 22, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Ray and Lillian (Barsley) Morgan. 

James is survived by his sons, Jason (Melissa “Lisa”) Morgan and Jeffrey (Sargum) Morgan; grandchildren, Ethan Morgan, Taylor Morgan, and Gavin Basile; as well as his friends and neighbors. 

James was a police officer for the Lake County Sheriff’s Department for over 25 years. He was a dog lover and had rescued several canine friends over the years.  In his spare time, he enjoyed maintaining his car, mowing his lawn, and going to the gym for a workout. 

James will be remembered as a man who made sure his children did not go without anything growing up and will be missed. 

In accordance with the family’s wishes, a private cremation has been arranged.
