2026

Helen Patricia (Piznarski) Feeney, 98, of St. John, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026, at her home. She was born on November 26, 1927, in East Chicago, to the late John and Anna (Kania) Piznarski.

Helen is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Robert Feeney; children, John Feeney, Elizabeth (Michael) Vesich, and Barbara (Frank) Teumer; grandchildren, Kyle (Devyn) Feeney, Austin Vesich, Amanda (Michael) Gabbard, Frankie (Jen) Teumer, Philomena (Tom) Behrens, Clara (Matt) Lisic, and Gabriella Teumer; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, MaryBeth (Roger) Meyers; three grandsons, Adam Teumer, Matthew Teumer, and Gavin Brauner; 9 brothers and sisters; and numerous relatives and friends.

Helen graduated from Roosevelt High School and went on to work for Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Dyer as a billing clerk for many years before becoming a proud housewife. She was also a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in St. John and St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Hammond. Helen was involved in various church, community, and card club organizations throughout her life, as well.

In her spare time, Helen could be found reading a mystery novel, completing crossword puzzles or playing a board or card game, sitting on the back porch to nature watch, or going out for lunch or shopping. In her younger years, she, alongside her beloved husband Robert, would dance and go on Sunday scenic drives, along with watching musicals, whether live at a theater or on the television. It should also be noted that holidays were a special time for Helen, whether it was to decorate the house, package gifts with precision, or create care packages for soldiers during the Christmas season. These memories of Helen will be cherished for years to come by her family and friends.

Helen will best be remembered as a friendly, outgoing, energetic lady who had a true zest for life. She, along with all the love and joy she shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts she touched throughout her life.

In accordance with Helen’s wishes, cremation has been chosen and burial will take place at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville at a later date. Calumet Park Funeral Chapel of Merrillville has been entrusted with her arrangements.
