Hugh Johnson, age 90, of Portage, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 16, 1935, in Harlan, Kentucky, to John Johnson and Drusilla Presley.

Hugh was first married to Katherine Brooks, with whom he shared five children. Later in life, Hugh met and married his beloved wife, Betty Lou Anne Johnson, and together they created a blended family filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Hugh was known for his love of building projects, rescuing animals, and spending quality time with his family. Though a man of few words, he possessed a playful spirit and a quiet sense of humor that brought warmth and laughter to those around him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Hugh is survived by his former wife, Katherine Brooks; his children, Glenda, Timothy, Theresa, Lois, Bruce, Evelyn, Debbie, Brenda, Glen, and Harvey Jr., along with his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Anne Johnson, and his son, Gary Johnson.

Visitation will be Monday, January 19, 2026 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel (7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, Indiana 46410) Pastor McFarland officiating. Burial to follow at Calumet Park Cemetery, Merrillville.  For information, call 219-736-5840.
